Classic Kids, or
films the kids in your life have to see by 13 or else!
Day 37 Roman Holiday (1953)
This was the film that introduced Audrey Hepburn to the world, and what
an introduction! Hepburn is so
enchanting, unique and special as the princess. She ended up winning in Oscar for this role. Gregory Peck as her co-star is equally
good, giving a lovely sensitive portrayal of a journalist falling in love,
while at the same time trying to ‘get a story’. However, It is the direction by William Wyler that sells
this film, as he uses the Italian backdrop in creative ways to frame the
characters and the story. Wonderful
Eddie Albert plays a supporting role.
Ever since I have seen this film, I have wanted a Vespa!
Themes: Joy, goals, purpose, duty and responsibilityMedia Literacy questions for kids: What country was this film shot in, how can you tell? When did the producers craft this film? What values are present in this film?
Trivia: The screenplay won
an Oscar but there were complications because of the political environment; the
script was forged by John Dighton and Dalton Trumbo, but since Trumbo was
black-listed he did not receive credit or an Oscar until years later
