Classic Kids, or 100 films that the kids in your life have to see by 13 or else!

Day 40: Little Lord Fauntleroy(1936)

Little Lord Fauntleroy is based on the 1886 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett and stars Freddie Bartholomew, the child star of his day next to Shirley Temple. The film was a huge success during the height of the depression as it tell the story of a rags to riches young man and his mother who come into good fortune. Character actor C. Aubrey Smith, know for playing rich entitled British lords plays well...another rich entitled lord. You can watch this film on YouTube since it is in the public domain. This is one sappy story, but such a joy to watch.   If you want to peek at Drew Barrymore's Grandmother then check out the beautiful mom in this story, played by actress Delores Costello. You can see the resemblance.

Mickey Rooney is one of the co-stars and he plays a young Cockney boy the way only an MGM  actor could-over the top, but it is fun.

Themes: Inheritance, England, class systems, loyalty
Media Literacy Questions for Kids: How can you tell this film was made in Hollywood versus the United Kingdom? What are the values and moral promoted within this film?
