Classic Kids, or 100 films the kids in your life have to see by 13 or else!

Day 41:  The Music Box  (1932)

This movie is insane.  You must introduce your children to Laurel and Hardy or, I am sorry to say, they will lack a complete education in the art of the absurd.  When Laurel and Hardy made this film in 1932 they were already an established comedy team, from their decade in the Silent films.  Their timing is brilliant.  All of their films are fun, but The Music Box stands out for its clever use of space (the stairs) and the comedic tension that builds with every step.
I first saw this in Bill Keyes class at West High in 1978 and could not believe how funny it was.
Enjoy, and I double dog dare you not to laugh!

Themes:  Responsibility, Work, Money, Goals

Media literacy questions for kids:  What genre is this film?  What makes Laurel and Hardy a good comedy team?  Are there values expressed in this film?   This film was made in the early days of the depression, what about this film displays this period in American history?
