Day 42: The Three Musketeers (1949)
“Never fear quarrels, but seek hazardous adventures.”
There are multiple film versions of the Dumas classic, but the best are the 1949 and 1973 versions. I lean toward the earlier one for a couple reasons, one there is the-all-the-stars-in-heaven MGM cast of Gene Kelly as d'Artagnan, June Allison as Constance; Lana Turner as Milady and Vincent Price (LOVE HIM) as Richelieu; secondly, this version (1949) is quite faithful to the original text. However, that said, the 1973 version (not for the kiddies) is quite fun if a tad naughty in the best tawdry Tom Jones sense. Both versions are true swashbucklers. En garde!
“And now gentlemen, all for one, one for all - that is our motto, is it not?”
