Day 49: The Secret of Roan Inish (1994)




Directed by John Sayles, The Secret of Roan Inish is an American/Irish Independent film, based on the novel The Secret of Ron Mor Skerry, by Rosalie K. Fry.  The story is built around Irish
Folklore, and oral story tradition.  The story is told from Fiona's point-of-view, which is a fun change.  Lovely story telling and a beautiful setting in an Irish fishing village. 

Here is part of a New York Times review from critic Stephen Holden, "The Secret of Roan Inish is the first film directed by Mr. Sayles that could be described as visually rhapsodic. Photographed by Haskell Wexler on Ireland's rugged northwestern seacoast, it is a cinematic tone poem in which man and nature, myth and reality flow together in a way that makes them ultimately indivisible."
