Classic Kids, or films the kids in your life have to see by 13 or else!

Day 23

Brave

Anything with Emma Thompson is good.  I love that actress and how diligently she works to be part of films that provoke and inspire.  Brave is such a film.  Brenda Champion and Mark Andrews directed this Pixar film with Emma Thompson the voice for Queen Elinor, mother to a spirited and independent Princess Merida.  Princess Merida accidentally unleashes a curse upon the kingdom, but instead of waiting for someone to fix the problem, Merida uses her bravery and archery skills to make everything okay.  From beginning to end, this movie will enchant you.

Themes:  Bravery, loyalty, consequences, family
Media literacy questions:  How are Pixar films different than more traditional cartoons?  Why is Merida different than other princesses in Disney films?  What is your favorite scene and why?  What country and time period are the filmmakers trying to convey?  Is this a fairy tale, or simply a cartoon?
