Classic kids, or 100 films the kids in your life have to see by 13 or else!

Day 32: The Swiss Family Robinson (1960)

I wanted a tree house so badly after seeing this movie.  The tree house even had a library!  The cool contraptions, the animals, plants and the far away locale made this one of my favorite movies as a kid.  I saw it at the Majestic downtown, when it came through for a second running in the middle 1960s.  I wish they would rerun films like that again, such a thrill to see this on the grand screen.

Themes: Family, creativity, self-reliance, farming and sustainability

Media Literacy Questions:  Why did Disney make this movie?  What was your favorite scene and why?  If Hollywood made the film again today what would be different and how?  (Older kids) Does the film say certain things about race, gender or class?
