Day 17

Classic Kids, or films the kids in your life have to see before they are 13 or else!!!!

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)

I remember reading the Roald Dahl book in 3rd grade, he wrote the screenplay for the film, and falling in love with the character of Charlie and his quest for the golden ticket. The film is as yummy as the book, if perhaps a tad quirkier. Gene Wildler is perfectly cast.

Yummy!

Themes: Spoiled kids, Secrets, loyalty, family, dreams

Media literacy questions: What did the film makers do to make the book come alive? Were there special effects? How is charlie dressed in contrast to the other children? What does the Chocolate factory look like? Why is Charlie rewarded in the end?

Daniel Guilfoil: Right! Saw this at the Cinema Theatre on Atwood(now Barrymore) with Greg and Eric Grumke and Danny VanLanen. Greg and Eric's mom Maria took us in the Cortina. Great memories...

Juli Hinds: the Cortina, love that you added that in. My folks had a VW Van at that time.
