Classic kids or 100 films the kids in your life have to see by 13, or else!

Day 25 (1/4 of the way through)

Christmas Story  (1983)

(Actually dared Kate Kopischke to do this to a fudgesicle, it worked!)
I truly thought everyone with cable television had seen this movie, but my daughter Joelle told me yesterday, that most of her friends have not watched it yet!  I was introduced to this movie by an old boyfriend, in the late 1980s.  Still like the old boyfriend, and now positively love the movie.  In 2012, the film was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry, through the Library of Congress for being culturally, historically and aesthetically significant.  The film is based upon the book, by Jean Shepherd "In God We Trust, all others pay cash" Directed by Bob Clark, the story is about a little boy, Ralphie, who desperately want a Red Ryder Bee bee gun for Christmas.

(Love the fact that our bully has braces)

Themes:  Holidays, Parents (gender roles), siblings, bullies, elementary school, friendship and 1940s middle America

Media literacy questions:  How does the film portray the influencing power of radio? Why is the film told from Ralphie's point of view?    How does the film represent childhood?   How did the film makers construct a film that looked as if it were really made in the 1940s?  What were your favorite scenes and why?
